Privacy Policy

YerbyLabs ("we," "us," or "our") operates the IronBeak: The Avian Chronicles mobile application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that information. By using the App, you agree to the practices described in this policy.
1. Information We Collect
We collect only the information necessary to provide the App's core functionality:
- Account information — When you sign in with Google, we receive your Google account identifier and email address. We use these solely to authenticate you and associate your journal with your account. We do not receive your Google password, and we do not collect your name or phone number.
- Journal and progress data — Your sighting records (species, date, county/state, behavior tags, count, and notes), XP, rank, streak history, badge progress, Haunts, and owned expansion pack IDs are synced to our servers so your journal and progress can be restored if you switch to a new device.
- Location (optional) — if you tap "Use My Location" when logging a sighting, the App requests your device's GPS coordinates solely to derive your county and state. The raw GPS coordinates are used only for this lookup and are immediately discarded. Only the county and state name (e.g., "Travis County, TX") are stored with the sighting. Location is never accessed in the background.
- Audio recordings — if you use the audio logging feature, recordings are stored locally on your device and are not transmitted to our servers.
- Photos — if you attach a photo to a sighting, it is stored locally on your device and are not transmitted to our servers.
2. Information We Do Not Collect
- We do not store raw GPS coordinates. Location is used only to derive county and state at the moment you explicitly request it, then immediately discarded.
- We do not collect your name or phone number.
- We do not collect or store payment information. Purchases are processed entirely by Google Play.
- We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing purposes.
- We do not use advertising SDKs or third-party analytics trackers.
3. How We Use Your Information
All data collected is used solely to:
- Authenticate you and sync your journal and progress across devices.
- Display your field journal, sighting history, and progress within the App.
- Calculate XP, streaks, and badge achievements.
- Provide region-appropriate bird species for expeditions.
- Restore your owned expansion packs on a new device.
4. Crash Reporting
The App uses Sentry to collect anonymous crash and error reports. These reports include device type, OS version, app version, and a technical stack trace of the error. They do not include your sighting data, notes, or any personal information.
5. Data Storage and Security
Your account information, journal data, and progress are stored on servers located in the United States. All data is transmitted using HTTPS/TLS encryption. Audio recordings and photos remain on your device only and are never transmitted to our servers.
6. Permissions
The App may request the following device permissions:
- Microphone — used only when you choose to log a sighting via audio. Recordings are stored locally and not transmitted.
- Camera — used only when you choose to log a sighting via photo. Photos are stored locally and not transmitted.
- Location — used only when you explicitly tap "Use My Location" to tag a sighting with county and state. Never accessed in the background.
- Notifications — used to deliver optional daily quest reminders. You can disable notifications at any time in your device settings.
You may deny any permission; doing so will disable the associated feature but will not affect other App functionality.
7. Your Rights and Data Deletion
You may request deletion of your account and all associated server-side data at any time. Visit our Data Deletion page to submit a request, or contact us directly at admin@yerbylabs.com. We will process deletion requests within 30 days. Local data (audio, photos) can be removed by uninstalling the App or using the "Reset Everything" option in Settings.
8. Children's Privacy
The App is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us at admin@yerbylabs.com and we will promptly delete it.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the effective date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
